I can hardly believe I didn’t hear about this until now. My suspicion is that many more manga readers/collectors must be in the dark about it, so hopefully this blog post will help them discover it.
I’m talking about Mangatude, a site for trading not only manga, but also anime and everything in between (such as plushies, posters, figures, and any number of other things.
When you find an item you like, you can either offer one (or more) of your own items that you have listed on the site, or make an “open offer” of something else not on the site. I found myself doing this a lot, having few books to put up for trade. Instead, I offered money, 50% off the cover price to be exact.
There’s a lot of trust involved, but the site uses a feedback system, which helps. And supposedly, the person sending the books pays for shipping. I, not knowing this, always offered to pay for it along with the books, and only one trader declined. I feel a little duped now…
Here’s my haul so far (all were bought at half off the cover price except for the Dragon Ball volumes, which I traded for volumes #1-4 of I”s):
1. Inubaka: Crazy For Dogs (volumes #1-6).
2. S.O.S.
3. Dragon Ball (volumes #4-7).
4. Aishiteruze Baby (volumes #1-7).
5. Guru Guru Pon-Chan (volumes #1-9).
6. Instant Teen: Just Add Nuts (volumes #1-4).Not bad, huh? These are all books I’ve wanted to read, own or both for a long time. When you add everything I bought at DiscountAnimeDVD’s recent sale, my manga wish list has shrunk considerably. And as if it weren’t enough, I got some more via PaperbackSwap and a trade with someone from MangaTrade (a Yahoo! group):
1. Maison Ikkoku (volume #1).
2. Her Majesty’s Dog (volumes #1- 2 and #4).
3. Love*Com (volumes #1-3).
4. Dragon Ball (volume #8).This is partly the reason for my lack of reviews lately– I have just SO much to read, and even more coming my way! I certainly won’t review them all but I will review a few select ones, so keep an eye out for that.
As if I didn’t have enough to read, Baby & Me and Tail of the Moon are coming out next month, along with the first reprints of Little Orphan Annie. Ah! I’m excited.
I’m also running out of shelve space again…
