I’ve added a new image to my Digital Gallery. This character belongs to “Turtle Eggs,” a shorter children’s book I’m working on (another project in the back burner… Sigh!)
His name is Nicholas and he’s a bullied, friendless, dorky middle-schooler who befriends Luciano, a sullen, older boy who is another outcast in the all-boys school they both go to. Here he is:
When creating this story (which I’ve already got outlined from beginning to end) I drew heavily from my own experiences as a child going to an all-girls Catholic boarding school on my home country of Argentina. I was definitely an outcast there, often spending my time reading, drawing, or occasionally making noise with my recorder (two of these passions, the recorder and especially reading, I’ve used for Nicholas’ character.)
Luciano (who I should be drawing and uploading soon) is based on another girl from my school, one that was fearsome, not very pretty, and always quiet and with a mean look on her face. She was generally disliked. However, she was left alone, rather than enduring merciless teasing as I had to do!
Anyway, I’m happy with how the recorder came out. I still have mine –I looked at it to draw this one!
As always, you can see a slightly bigger version of this image by clicking on it (or here) which will take you to my Digital Gallery. Just scroll all the way to the bottom, and click on the thumbnail to see the bigger image on the light box.
